Jeff
Cloud is one of those individuals who doesn’t settle when
it comes to playing & recording music. As Jeff states, “whether
it’s fast or slow, bluesy or funky, it’s got to have passion
and feeling.”
One listen to his playing and you can easily tell that he really “means it” when he voices his soul. From his beautiful clean picking style on ballads to his fluid or “on the edge” soloing, you can hear that this mans passion for music runs deep. Starting out in his early teens, Jeff’s ear was eventually caught by players like Hendrix, Beck, Clapton, Page, Duane Allman, Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter, Robin Trower, David Gilmour, Frank Marino, Gary Moore, Hubert Sumlin, and Buddy Guy, with many more influences that have followed. “My influences are really quite broad and diverse and I can definitely appreciate anyone who is really good at whatever style they are doing. There’s so many beautiful players out there now. I feel very blessed to have the resources and variety that we have access to right now. The bottom line for me is, can you really feel what someone is trying to put across? Soul is not something you can fake. You’ve got to dig deep for it. Your own true individual essence is something you have to investigate and nurture over time. I just hope that people enjoy and are moved by the stuff that I play.” Having his own recording studio has enabled Jeff to play on a vast amount of different projects and recordings, from albums to jingles to movie soundtracks. His serious chops and tone put him in good company when he got asked to play on an album with some of rocks premier players, including George Lynch, Ronnie Montrose, Jennifer Batten, John Norum , Randy Hansen, and Eric Gales for an upcoming Frank Marino tribute album. Jeff recorded a cover of Franks song “Babylon” , which is an instrumental showcase for his infectious tone and phrasing. Jeff joined forces on the track with ex Mahogany Rush drummer Dave Goode who added the driving rhythm backing that makes the track really shine.
Currently Jeff is working on a new album that will showcase his wide variety of stylistic playing. Dave Goode will be holding down the drums again, as Jeff says, “Dave is one of the best drummers out there right now and a super nice guy. It is my pleasure to be able to work with him. He has such great chops and he’s one of the most focused drummers I’ve ever worked with.” Look for this album to include rock, blues, and funk with blends of electric and acoustic guitars, as well as Jeffs powerful slide and Dobro playing.
